January 9, 2007 marks the birth of digitalization with the introduction and presentation of the first iPhone.
Digitalization can certainly traced back much longer, but this event brought a new and most important aspect: the seamless integration of private life into the digital sphere. The mobile "always on" device (aka smartphone) brought the final push into digitalization.
The iPhone was not the first attempt to establish a smartphone on the market but the first successful and soon sparked many competing platforms with Android as the leader in market shares. Nokia as the leading brand in mobile phones was pushed out of the market, products like the Communicator were not competitive any more.
